Notice of Special Council Meeting

Pursuant to the Township of Zorra Procedural By-law No. 05-04, as amended Section 4.5, the Township Clerk hereby gives written notice of a Special Council Meeting to all Members of Council. A Special Council Meeting, to take place in the Council Chambers, Township Office, 274620 27th Line, as follows:
WEDNESDAY, JULY 21, 2021

The purpose of the special meeting is to discuss the proposed Zorra Municipal Centre. For more information, please contact the Clerk.

41st Line Bridge Between Road 66 and Road 58

The Township of Zorra is considering allowing CN to remove the 41st Line Bridge located between Road 66 and Road 58 and closing that portion of the roadway.

CN Rail has contacted Zorra Township requesting the possibility of removing the 41st Line Bridge that spans the CN rail tracks. CN and VIA are working on the preliminary stages of a project to improve train movements which would be adding a passing track in the area of the 41st Line Bridge which would require changes to the current bridge structure.

The bridge is nearing the 100-year mark and is currently substandard in terms of width, approach grades, sightlines, and weight capacity.  The cost to replace the bridge to the current standard is estimated at $3,000,000.00 and the portion Zorra would be required to contribute would be estimated at a minimum of $1,500,000.00.

This section of the 41st Line has a low daily traffic count and the cost to replace the bridge may not be feasible considering the daily use. If the bridge is removed, traffic circles would be installed on each side of the bridge and that section of the road would be closed.

There is NO regulatory requirement for the Township to consult the public, however, Council determined that any affected property owners should be consulted prior to the By-law to close the road coming forward for Council’s consideration.

If you have comments regarding this matter kindly provide them no later than June 15, 2021 by sending an email
