Boards and Committees

The Township of Zorra looks for engaged citizens to participate on several boards and committees. Our boards and committees are comprised of various Zorra Township residents, Township Staff, and/or members of Council. Membership of Boards and Committees is renewed every four years, with the change of Council. Details of these committees are outlined below. Please contact the Township Clerk for more information regarding committees at 519-485-2490.

Zorra Community Policing Committee

The mandate of the Zorra Community Policing Committee is to advise on all aspects of the provision of police related matters in the Township of Zorra and to promote and maintain communication with the public. The Committee is made up of four to eight Zorra residents, one member of Council, and a representative from the Township Corporate Services Department. The Mayor shall sit “ex officio” on the Committee and may attend all meetings and shall have full voting privileges but shall not be counted for the purpose of quorum, as per Procedural By-law 04-18 (s.8.4). Zorra Multi-Use Court Committee

The purpose of the Zorra Multi-Use Court Committee is to make recommendations to Council on all aspects relating to the potential Multi-Use Courts being constructed behind the Thamesford District Recreation Centre and Embro Zorra Community Centre, in the Township of Zorra whilst adhering to the visions put forward in the Township of Zorra’s Strategic Plan and the Recreation, Arts and Culture Master Plan. Click here to view the Terms of Reference for the Zorra Multi-Use Court Committee. Zorra Recreation Advisory Committee

The Zorra Recreation Advisory Committee (ZRAC) is a group that meets eight to ten times per year to review and provide public comments on the general recreation, arts, and culture programs of the Township of Zorra. The committee is comprised of 8 Zorra residents, 2 Township Councillors, the Mayor, the Recreation & Facilities Manager and the Recreation & Facilities Program Coordinator. Agendas and minutes from meetings are provided for information purposes. Meetings are open to the public and anyone is welcome to attend. Meetings take place at various facilities around the Township. Meeting dates and locations are listed below. Zorra Splash Committee

The purpose of the Zorra Splash Committee is to make recommendations to Council on all aspects relating to the potential Splash Pad being constructed in the Village of Embro in the Township of Zorra whilst adhering to the visions put forward in the Township of Zorra’s Strategic Plan and the Recreation, Arts and Culture Master Plan. Fence-viewers

Fence-viewers appointed by council are responsible to examine the premises upon application and payment of fees by either adjoining landowner and shall hear evidence and may examine the owners and their witnesses on oath. The fence-viewers shall make an award respecting the dispute.  The fence-viewers shall:  describe the location of the fence; who shall construct the fence; the type of construction including the materials to be used; the date of completion; who shall be responsible for maintaining the fence; and shall state the percentage each owner is responsible for.

Poundkeeper

Each Poundkeeper shall provide premises for the enclosure and safe keeping of any animal or animals impounded, and shall ensure that the premises are clean and in good repair.  The Poundkeeper may establish from time to time temporary premises for the confinement of livestock apprehended within or outside the municipal boundary.  Each Poundkeeper shall detain impounded animals until the owner has paid the costs and charges of such impounding, care and keeping and appraised damages and if not paid shall be authorized to sell the animal(s) as set out in the appointment by-law and applicable legislation.

Zorra Heritage Committee

The Zorra Heritage Committee has a mandate “To identify, document and promote the heritage of Zorra”. It is a committee of the Beachville District Historical Society whose mandate encompasses all of Zorra Township and all of South-West Oxford Township. At the inaugural meeting in 2019, Heather Forbes was elected as Chair of the Committee and Sam Coghlan was elected as Secretary. Please consider joining the Committee (which will require taking out a membership in the Beachville District Historical Society ($5.00 fee).
