Burn Ban Lifted

Back to Search
News

Zorra Fire Rescue is lifting the burn ban within Township borders effective immediately. This short but important ban was in response to low precipitation and the extreme heat warning, which resulted in an extreme fire risk in or near Zorra on August 10, 11, and 12, 2025.

Zorra Fire Rescue understands the place of controlled burning as an important land management tool in the farming community. Staff are restoring burn permits as the prolonged accumulation of dead and dry fuels will cause new hazards that could lead to fire spread. Have a method of extinguishment nearby and separate your burn piles from other fuel sources by a non-combustible perimeter.

Zorra placed a ban on Friday in anticipation of extreme fire danger, which did materialize, and lasted the weekend. We did so by listening to our farmers, and firefighters, and the conditions they saw. We thank them for their input.

The effective rain that has occurred is leaving the ecosystem very quickly. Please use extreme caution when burning.

Residents are reminded that they must call Tillsonburg Fire Communications to activate approved burn permits 30 minutes prior to burning. The phone number is included with the information package that comes with every burn permit application.
