Canada Post

Canada Post provides mail delivery services in the Township. There is a lot of useful information available on their website.

Many of our rural residents have individual rural mailboxes. The guidelines for these boxes are inspected and monitored by Canada Post. Download the Rural Mailbox Guidelines to be sure your box meets the regulations to avoid service disruptions.

Several of our more heavily populated areas are serviced by Community Mailboxes (CMB's). Information about these CMB's can be found on Canada Post's website.

Community Mailbox Q & A

  1. Community Mailboxes (CMB’s) fall under Canada Post and the Canada Post Act.

  2. When installing community mailboxes, a Canada Post Delivery Service Officer will find a suitable location that meets our safety criteria, and then they work with the municipality to ensure that they are not interfering with any municipal issues that they would not be aware of.

  3. All CMB’s installed meet the Canada Post requirements.

  4. The Delivery Service Officer reviews the location with the approving authority to ensure that there are no issues from their end. The location and the installation are the responsibility of Canada Post.

  5. Canada Post needs to work the approving authority. If major issues are raised, Canada Post would work with the municipality to resolve the issues.

  6. CMB’s are installed to current guidelines that ensure the equipment is installed in safe locations, making it safe for everyone to access.

  7. Lighting, parking, road conditions, and sidewalks are all taken into consideration when we are looking for a location. Canada Post follows the engineered criteria based on the situation that they are faced with at each location.

  8. Snow removal and accessibly to the CMB is the responsibility of Canada Post. Canada Post is responsible to ensure that the equipment is maintained and accessible. There is a toll free number on the equipment that anyone can call and report issues.

  9. Canada Post has an accommodation process that anyone can try to access. The department works with the individual and if deemed necessary an accommodation is put into place.

  10. If all residents disagree with a CMB location that met the criteria and wishes to relocate the CMB to the post office, requests must be made in writing. Canada Post will review this request with head office policy staff to see if they can accommodate the request.
